GnuCheese is an independent fork of the venerable GNU Chess 5.07 chess engine. GnuCheese is unrelated to GNU Chess 6 which has been released by the Free Software Foundation and which is a rebranded Fruit engine. Currently GnuCheese is about 180 elo stronger than GNU Chess 6 at the time control of 40 moves per 60 seconds. This project was originally started as an attempt ot fix a number of well-known bugs in GNU Chess 5.07 which dragged down its intrinsic strength. A number of updated versions were released, the most recent one being GNU Chess 5.60. To reduce the possibility of confusion with GNU Chess 6, the engine has now been renamed as GnuCheese 1.00. This is the name under which the 5.xx versions have been playing 24/7 on FICS since 2009. GnuCheese supports both the UCI and the CECP (xboard) protocol for seamless integration with every possible Chess GUI. GnuCheese supports Gaviota endgame table bases, allowing for more accurate endgame play. GnuCheese supports the autoregistration standard created by Harm Geert Muller (the maintainer of xboard). After installation GnuCheese will automagically appear in xboard as an installed engine. This is also true for any other GUI supporting this standard. GnuCheese compiles seamlessly on Windows, Linux and Android. For the latest Information visit: http://hardy.uhasselt.be/GnuCheese
